Letters to editor on local candidates
Shafer ‘perfect successor’
I have known Sandy Shafer, first as one of my students at University of Kentucky, then later as my councilwoman.
She is a person of the highest character, a wife, mother and grandmother, as dedicated to all those roles as she will be as a councilwoman from the 11th District.
I have the greatest respect for current Councilwoman Peggy Henson, with whom I served on the Urban County Council, and I was sorry to hear that she was not going to run for re-election. But I say with true conviction that Shafer will make the perfect successor to Henson.
Shafer is unpretentious in all her work with people and organizations and shows no hint of ego or vanity in her work or personality. She is a doer and a thinker, and as such Shafer will represent the communities in her district as an exceptionally positive, principled and active leader.

Murphy fine educator
I had the privilege of teaching with Tyler Murphy, candidate for Fayette County Public Schools Board, in 2013 in Nelson County. His passion for education is immeasurable and was apparent even on his first day in the classroom.
To see Murphy in the classroom is to see the way learning should be. He is expressive and animated in a way that passes his passion on to his students. I have every confidence in his abilities as an educator and I know that he would be a valuable asset to the school board. I will be voting for Murphy on Nov. 6.

Mossotti devoted to job
I’m voting for Jennifer Mossotti for 9th District Urban County Council member because she is one of the hardest-working women I know.
She comes to neighborhood meetings and keeps us in touch with all that is happening in city hall, zoning, parks activities, police, roads and utility issues. Her goal seems to be for all of us to work together to make our community the best it can be. She supports volunteer activities in our area and empowers us to be the best citizens we can be.
Together, we can make a difference.

Tackett a perfect fit
I support John Tackett in the Fayette District Court judge race. He has been a diligent and hard-working young lawyer, and he will bring the same work ethic to the bench.
He posses all of the qualities that we should seek in a judge: a first-class legal intellect, a love for the law, an innate sense of fairness and knowledge of what’s right, an enviable work ethic and a disposition well-suited to the judiciary.

Reynolds compassionate
I firmly believe Jennifer Reynolds is the ideal person to represent the 11th District on the Urban County Council and know she will do so with compassion for every person who lives in the district.
I know this because I have spent Saturday afternoons walking alongside Reynolds as she knocked on doors before the primary and leading up to the general election.
It’s been amazing to see her approach front doors in each neighborhood of the 11th District, with an introduction of herself and her history in bilingual community outreach, with a commitment to representing everyone, an ability to listen closely and hear the concerns people have for our district, and with responses to these concerns that express that she understands and shares them.
Reynolds’ understanding comes from attending countless community events, neighborhood association meetings and pop-up conversations in the district; it comes from showing up, listening and caring.
