Unendorsed candidate response
Time for a fresh perspective
I want to thank the Herald-Leader editorial board for the opportunity to respond and for their kind words regarding my knowledge of the issues and work ethic. However, I feel the board erred in its judgment.
After spending months talking with residents door-to-door in every neighborhood of the 5th District and securing the endorsements of KFTC’s New Power PAC, C-FAIR, Bluegrass Central Labor Council, Kentucky NOW, Central Kentucky Building and Construction Trades, and AFSCME, I am ready to take on the complicated issues we face.
My Ph.D in psychology prepares me to think critically and from a data-driven perspective when approaching complex issues. As an educator, working mother, community volunteer and social-justice advocate, I offer perspectives regarding my district’s needs and approaches to solutions that my opponent lacks.
The editors explain they are “disappointed” my opponent “supported a surprise, last minute amendment [...] that would have allowed expansion of the urban boundary.” I want to assure the paper and its readers that my commitment to maintaining the boundary and smart development is unwavering.
As your next councilmember for the 5th District, I will continue to reach out to all residents of the district. Together we will confront the challenges facing our community such as affordable housing, opioids and public safety.
These times do not call for “continuity.” These times call for change and a fresh perspective. With your support and your vote, we can bring much-needed change to the council. Find out more about me at www.LizForLex.com.
