Letters to editor: 6th District congressional race

McGrath determined

Like retired Lt. Col. Amy McGrath, I was once a little girl with big dreams and a determination to serve the people of Kentucky.

As your governor, I focused on education and economic development. That was more than 30 years ago, but at a recent anniversary gathering, a man made it a point to thank me. Getting on at Toyota, he said, had meant financial security, health insurance and lifelong benefits for him, his parents and his children.

Likewise, McGrath is focused on jobs and health care for our Kentucky families. She talks honestly about this with voters, and when you go to her website, the first thing you see listed is her detailed economic plan.

I see in her the same focus and dedication I have always had. It was my great honor to serve you as your governor, and it is with great confidence that I endorse Amy McGrath for Congress.

McGrath clueless

Amy McGrath is not a viable candidate for Congress because she voted for Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama. She can fly a plane but is clueless in politics. She should take her F-10 and fly it over the cuckoo’s nest that contains Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Sens. Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer and Rep. Maxine Waters. As for the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh, the Democrats are shameful. No qualified person will want to go through that scrutiny again. We will be stuck with duds like Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor. This will be the end of our country.

Barr’s falsehoods

How do you vote for someone who approves campaign ads that are untrue? That is 6th District Congressman Andy Barr.

His Democratic opponent, Amy McGrath, wants open borders? Not true. She wants abortion until month nine of pregnancy? Not true. Opposes tax cuts for the middle class? Not true. Wants to eliminate Medicare? Not true.

These are just four examples of Barr’s untruthfulness.

Barr not only distorts the truth but runs an old, tired, negative fear-based campaign. He has failed Kentucky on health care and is failing Kentucky as he looks backward to revive coal, instead of looking forward to renewable energy sources.

Kentucky voters have been duped in the past by fear-based campaigns from untruthful politicians. If you want truthful, productive, forward-looking leadership, it’s McGrath, not Barr, for Congress on Nov. 6.

Barr helps Kentucky

The Democratic Party has evolved into a party that no longer represents my core values. For this reason I changed my affiliation 17 years ago to Republican. As a neighbor and friend of Rep. Andy Barr and his wife, Carol, I am proud to strongly support his re-election in the 6th Congressional District.

Barr has proven his strong and effective leadership for Kentucky families. He supported legislation to cut taxes for average Kentucky middle-class families, he’s leading the fight to combat Kentucky’s opioid epidemic and he’s cutting spending and reining in the national debt.

His opponent, Amy McGrath, said in her own words, “I am further left, I am more progressive, than anybody in the state of Kentucky.” As a former member of the Kentucky Commission on Women, I am always happy to support another female whose values align with mine; however, McGrath’s liberal agenda does not.

Question those tax cuts

I took my dogs for a walk through a neighborhood with affluent homes and noticed all the signs for Rep. Andy Barr. What came to mind is that I see who is most benefiting from the so-called middle-class tax cuts. I have been comparing home values with the political signs posted in yards and there really is a correlation.

Take note as you do the same and think about the negative political ads you see. Do you really think challenger Amy McGrath is against the middle-class tax cut? Maybe the middle-class tax cut isn’t actually for the middle class. It certainly hasn’t helped my family that much. These so-called tax cuts are only in effect until 2020 for middle-class citizens but permanent for the large corporations.

I am voting for the candidate who I think will better serve the people of Kentucky and who cares about all classes of people.

Dems gone wild

I decided to put some money where my mouth is and donated to the Rep. Andy Barr re-election campaign. Why, since I am in the 5th District? The Democrats have targeted the 6th Congressional District in their quest to take control of the House of Representatives. Those of us who do not want socialism and the current mob rule you see in the streets in control of our government should do all we can to prevent this.

The Democratic Party of the past is now run by radicals. I once voted for Sen. Wendell Ford, but that Democratic Party is gone. Just imagine, Rep. Maxine Waters would be in charge of a House committee if Democrats take control of Congress. The same Waters who is telling people to get in other people’s faces. Get your friends to keep the Democrats from controlling the House.

McGrath what Ky. needs

Candidate Amy McGrath won’t have to buy ads if 6th District Congressman Andy Barr keeps on in a similar way with his negative attacks against her: “feminist,” “progressive,” “pro-choice,” “voted for former President Obama twice.” McGrath’s exactly what I want in a candidate.

A female fighter pilot is too liberal for Kentucky? McGrath’s one of a multitude of Democratic women candidates necessary to leapfrog Kentucky and the nation into the future.

Women and men know via family experience the importance of affordable health care, public education and jobs with collective bargaining, and pension obligations kept for public employees.

Our job as voting citizens is to keep for-profit privateers away from taxpayer-funded-and-shared public programs, employees and property.

We are Kentuckians and immigrants all. Hear us roar for humane and human equality.

God’s memo on voting

Vote for the most qualified woman for the 6th District congressional seat — Rikka Wallin. If you’re a conservative, vote for Frank Harris, the most qualified man.

But if your God commands you never to vote for a third-party candidate because that candidate has no chance of winning, vote for Republican Rep. Andy Barr on Nov. 6. He’s the lesser of the two evils.

Now I know you’re thinking: “But Andy Barr is a reckless, ignorant, bloodthirsty, pro-war, savage neocon... I have to vote for McGrath.” But what you’re in denial about is that McGrath is exactly the same as Barr, and she’s killed people in war. Barr hasn’t.

So God is commanding you to vote Republican this time. You just haven’t gotten the memo yet.

Health care is a value

When Rep. Andy Barr claims that Amy McGrath doesn’t reflect Kentucky values, I have to remember that Barr said he voted “enthusiastically” to repeal the Affordable Care Act. If he had gotten his way, he would have enthusiastically taken away the medical care for thousands of his constituents in the 6th District, and hundreds of thousands of Kentuckians. Apparently Barr believes Kentuckians “value” being sick. Or he was just doing what he was told by his bosses in Washington.
