Letters to the Editor

Not sure who to vote for on Nov. 6? Our letter writers have some suggestions.

Murphy offers teacher’s view

I met Tyler Murphy a few years ago at a political event. In getting to know him, I can tell he is making a difference in students’ lives.

He has been a teacher for eight years, serves on academic boards and state committees, has worked on school budgets, is an advocate for students and teachers and works with elected officials to shape school policies.

He wants to make sure every student has the opportunity to be successful. Murphy sees the issues from the inside, and knows a more holistic approach would help students outside the classroom as well as inside.

He is running for Fayette County Public Schools board in District 2, so I get to cast my vote for him. If he is elected, Murphy would be the only working public school teacher on the board. He would fill in that gap in perspective.

Choose Ellinger

I have known Chuck Ellinger II for many years. He has been an influence for all that is good in our community. I know of no other candidate for the office of at-large council who is more qualified to best serve Lexington and Fayette County. I wholeheartedly recommend voting for Ellinger.

Mossotti knows the job

Jennifer Mossotti has done an A-plus job as our 9th District Urban County Council member. We’re most appreciative of her monthly newsletter, as she includes everything we could possibly be interested in or need to know.

Having been on the council for many years, she’s experienced and experience makes a huge difference when it comes to dealing with so many issues.

Shafer has credibility

I was approached by Urban County Council candidate Sandy Shafer at home. It was the first time I had a candidate at my door and I was very impressed with her experience and abilities. She was part of the concept team for improving Clays Mill Road. She stated that there are corridor improvement plans for both Alexandria Drive and Versailles Road within the 11th District.

I asked why I or others haven’t heard about these plans, and Shafer said she will “dust them off” and push for them. Versailles Road really needs the benefit of Shafer’s experience. Vote for experience and credibility. Shafer will fight for the 11th District.

Glancy offers new perspective

Jacob Glancy, 9th District candidate for Urban County Council, is a good family man with excellent business experience. Here in the 9th we need the knowledge that Glancy can bring to the council. He's a fresh face and I've been very impressed with how hard his campaign is working; they've gone out of the way to answer all my questions. Join me in voting for Glancy on Nov. 6.

Reynolds driven, determined

Jennifer Reynolds, a candidate for the 11th District Urban County Council seat, is a woman full of integrity and is a hard worker. I have known her since she was a teenager. We have worked together for many years and I can attest that she is one of the most positive, committed, focused and well-prepared individuals I've known.

She has worked relentlessly to bring arts to the Cardinal Valley community. Her determination and drive are unparalleled; she is full of great ideas and hope. She connects and represents every sector of the community. She isn’t afraid to speak up and fight for what is right.

She is a great listener and fluent Spanish speaker who is open to new ideas and conversation, is easy to talk to and can make things happen. She is the right person to represent our community and speak up for those without a voice.

Moloney speaks for all

Richard Moloney has tried-and-true experience in city government, having worn numerous hats as district councilman and at-large councilman as well as administrative positions. Moloney is a leader who shows up and speaks out for those residents who are disenfranchised in areas that are underrepresented.

You can find Moloney often at community events and neighborhood meetings in the 1st District as well as others, listening and responding to citizens’ concerns and needs. We need leaders like Moloney who represent all citizens and show up in all areas of the city. Vote to keep Moloney as at-large member of the Urban County Council.

Keep Reynolds on the bench

Judge John Reynolds is the best choice for Fayette County Circuit Court judge. Do not be fooled by his competition; Lucy Ferguson VanMeter is not qualified. A person may think being married to a judge, as VanMeter is, makes one qualified; but it does not.

Reynolds is qualified and is in place on the bench. There is no training necessary. He is honest and never deceives anyone about who he is or what he was. Vote to keep Reynolds.

Bastin for safety issues

We need Ronnie Bastin as Lexington mayor. We need security in schools. We need security downtown especially around the Central Library and the Limestone area. Failure to elect Bastin will be a sad day for Lexington.
