Letters to editor on local political races
Buford a bully
As a retired librarian, resident of Jessamine County and lifelong supporter of public libraries, I am dismayed and disappointed by state Sen. Tom Buford’s position on his opponent’s use of a public library meeting room for a political forum.
Buford is wrong in threatening public libraries, within his own district, with punitive action (such as withholding his support and supporting legislation which would prove to be detrimental to the impartial governance of public libraries) for upholding their policies which permit these meetings in public meeting rooms
I applaud Carolyn Dupont, his opponent for the 22nd District state Senate seat, for inviting constituents to make use of their public libraries as venues for free public discourse. I view Buford’s response, as described in a Herald-Leader article, as an example of political bullying.

Another term for Gibbs
If politics today needs anything, it needs office holders who listen well, resist talk that restates the obvious, and do not suffer a need for attention. That's Jake Gibbs. Now completing his second term as Urban County Council representative for the 3rd District, Gibbs has more than earned another. He's attentive to the unique needs of the district which includes much of downtown and the campus neighborhoods near the University of Kentucky, which hold challenges other districts do not face.
Gibbs is also deeply concerned about Lexington as a whole and considers what is best for the whole regardless of the political consequences. Perhaps more importantly, his presence on the council does not create discord, and he does not pander with political slogans. Come Nov. 6, vote Gibbs.

Wallace too liberal
Fayette County voters must be warned about Adrian Wallace, candidate for Lexington-Fayette County Urban County Council at-large representative, because of his radical, left-wing views.
Wallace’s campaign Facebook page indicates support for Stacey Abrams, Georgia gubernatorial candidate, who recently said that the “undocumented,” i.e. illegal aliens, were part of the coming “blue wave.”
Wallace is endorsed by Our Revolution, an outgrowth of democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign. Our Revolution has endorsed candidates such as Minnesota’s Keith Ellison and New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who favors abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Our Revolution’s positions are radical, viewing health care and college education as rights. It favors creation of a federal single-payer health-care program and “decoupling local law enforcement from immigration enforcement,” essentially creating sanctuary cities for illegal aliens.
Wallace should be rejected by Fayette County voters.

Tackett compassionate
I have known John Tackett, a candidate for Fayette County District Court judge, for a number of years and have had the opportunity to observe his professionalism, his legal knowledge and perhaps most importantly his compassion for the people of Fayette County. He has the temperament to face a challenging situation, assess the issue and react accordingly.
There is no way we could go wrong with Tackett on the bench in district court.

Re-elect Mossotti
It has been a privilege to know Jennifer Mossotti for more than 20 years. During this time I have seen her strong work ethic, her dedication to her position as a member of the Urban County Council and her response to the people in the 9th District. She is a voice of experience on the council and knows her district very well. I urge district voters to join me in supporting Mossotti on Nov 6.
