Unendorsed candidate responses

Choose Marrs, not a Frankfort lifer

It is a disappointment to see the paper endorse the definition of an out-of-touch career politician. The voters deserve an engaged and informed representative who will be available and accountable to them, unlike my opponent, whom district voters repeatedly cite as failing to return calls and emails.

Having walked door to door to every precinct, I know this district better than anyone. If elected I will attend neighborhood association meetings, email newsletters and even offer Facebook forums during the session.

In the past, my opponent enthusiastically ran ads with former Gov. Steve Beshear, despite the fact that he made Kentucky’s pension crisis the worst in the U.S. with years of underfunding and mismanagement. In contrast, this last budget, Republicans fully funded the ARC and put record amounts into the SEEK formula.

My opponent sincerely believes we can tax, borrow and spend our way to prosperity. As a fiscal conservative, I’ll demand accountability and transparency for taxpayers.

If you want a nearly 30-year career politician with one of largest pensions of current legislators plus free health care for life, at your expense then your vote is easy: Simply checking the attendance box in Frankfort does not equal success.

The voters in the 76th District deserve better and my passion to serve this district is unmatched. I also pledge to limit myself to eight years and eliminate legislative pensions, free health care and special-session pay. Candidate, 76th House District

Reynolds unmatched in 11th District

I would like to thank the Herald-Leader editorial board for a chance to respond. While unfortunately I have not received their endorsement, I look forward to working with them and building that bridge when I’m on council.

I have a great desire to serve; however, my campaign runs deeper than that single point. I believe I am the best candidate to represent the entire 11th District. Not only have I been building bridges as I speak with residents while going door-to-door, but my ability to do so has been acknowledged by the endorsements and support of C-FAIR, KFTC’S New Power PAC, the Fraternal Order of Police, LBAR, and El Mundo Bluegrass.

I currently reside in that “part of the city too long neglected.” My experience as an anthropologist and bilingual outreach director of a Cardinal Valley program for nearly six years and work with current council member Peggy Henson has best equipped me to understand the various perspectives needed for fully representing Lexington’s most diverse district.

I will work alongside 11th District residents to follow through with the plans they already have in place and help others build their own. I will focus on helping them do what they choose for the betterment of the district.

During this transitionary period in city government, now is the time to continue to move ahead with new energy, ideas, and progress. I look forward to continuing to build bridges in the 11th and throughout all of Lexington.

I’d appreciate your vote on Nov. 6.
