With Epstein scandal, MAGA went from ‘drain the swamp to ‘hide the predators.’

Don’t get distracted

MAGA was crushed when it turned out Comet Pizza didn’t have a basement.

MAGA was decimated when the hero of the movie “Sound of Freedom,” was accused of sexual assault.

MAGA wanted the release of Epstein’s list. Turns out President Donald Trump may be on Epstein’s list.

The Republicans are so desperate to prevent release of the Epstein files they shut down the U.S. House of Representatives early for summer break. MAGA went from “Drain the swamp” to “Hide the predators.”

Trump may order an attack on Greenland or offer tours of Area 51 to divert attention from the Epstein scandal. This nation is on the brink of disaster every day Trump is in office.

Post office delays

I went to the post office to mail a passport renewal by overnight mail. Guess what? They no longer offer overnight mail. Furthermore, any mail you deposit at any time doesn’t go out until the next day. It has to do with saving money by not running half-empty trucks from Lexington to Louisville.

Earlier this month postal rates rose, the second time this year. Mail is no longer sorted in Lexington. Now, if you mail a bill to a Lexington business, it first goes to Louisville and then back to Lexington.

Watch out for what’s ahead! President Donald Trump wants to privatize the U.S. Postal Service. This has to do with making the USPS a profit-making enterprise. My question is why? Aren’t there certain PUBLIC GOODS like the postal service (along with services like fire and police) that shouldn’t require a profit??

I love my post office and respect my mailman, but I don’t like what they’re trying to do with the USPS! Benjamin Franklin must be rolling over in his grave.

Our representatives need to hear from us that the post office shouldn’t need to be a profit-center. Take a couple minutes and call U.S. Sens. Mitch McConnell at (859) 224-8286, Rand Paul at (270) 782-8303 and U.S. Rep. Andy Barr at (859) 219-1366.

Keep Medicare Advantage

When I served, I learned how important it was to take care of the people around me. These days, I am focused on taking care of my health. That has become harder as I have gotten older, but Medicare Advantage has helped ease that burden.

I was drafted right before the U.S. exited Vietnam, and I always felt guilty, like I hadn’t done enough. When I started having chronic pain, I didn’t want to be a burden or make it harder for other veterans to see a doctor. Medicare Advantage made it possible to see specialists and helped me afford visits with a physical therapist to treat it.

Lawmakers in Washington decided not to touch Medicare Advantage in the last round of budget talks. Some in Congress are already talking about future cuts. If that happens, it will create real harm for veterans and seniors who depend on this coverage. I am asking every member of Kentucky’s Congressional delegation to protect Medicare Advantage. This program is not about politics, it’s about supporting all of us.

Beshear for Senate

Dear Gov. Andy Beshear - We think you have been the best governor we have had in many past administrations. You have led us through Covid, several natural disasters, and all the silliness the Republican legislature has perpetrated on Kentuckians. We are encouraged that you have gained national attention for your successes, but the fact remains that we need you in the U.S. Senate.

We need your experience and fortitude in the Senate to bring some form of consistency and sanity to an otherwise dysfunctional institution. A term in the Senate would add to your already great resume and prepare you for the presidency. Please consider this alternative for our sake!

Enough is enough

When is enough enough? When is it enough to avenge the deaths of 1,200? Is the death of another 60,000 enough? To avenge 5,000 people injured, do another 150,000 need to be injured? When is it enough to kill or wound 10 percent of a region; to bomb hospitals and schools and food distribution centers killing and wounding people that simply want to live? They had nothing to do with what you want to avenge. Young children crying holding empty pots stretching their arms through a fence in hopes that they will be next to get food. Do mothers holding emaciated children, nothing more than skin over a skeleton, justify the goal? When is it that you have become what you have so hated for the last 80 plus years.

Enough is enough.

FCPS budget

Regarding the report on the two-year training of the Fayette County Public Schools board, the report never describes the nature of the training. Often board training is to train board members on their role of governance vis-a-vis the role of the administration’s management role. If so, this can be of significant practical value as there is often confusion by boards on board vs. administration roles and that creates enormous confusion and functional problems. If so, this can be accomplished in 8 or so hours of training... not sure the reason $45,000 per year for two years is needed. Or is it for some other type of training?

Abnormal times

These are not normal times, not at all.

Mark Twain said “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it.”

An increasing number citizens who love this country do not feel the current administration deserves our support. Millions of citizens have taken to the streets in peaceful protest — to preserve and protect our democracy. The recent “No Kings” rally was one of the biggest single-day protest in U.S. history.

This letter is a simple thank you to the patriots who have stepped up in recent months to protest actions by the Trump administration — actions that the polls suggest most Americans do not support; actions that are cruel and often incompetent; actions that are causing chaos — and fear in our everyday lives.

For all those people who have contacted their congressional representatives to express concern regarding actions by the Trump administration, thank you. To those who have used social media or written a letter to a newspaper to express concern, thank you. And to all those who have attended town halls, rallies, or marched in resistance to the Trump administration, thank you.

We are patriots supporting our country.
