The men and women who serve Trump are helping him defile our country | Opinion

Trump ego

How far are we going to let the egomaniac who resides in the White House take this country down the garden path that ends under a sign that says, “Abandon hope all who enter here?”

President Donald Trump is not using his Presidential powers; he is abusing them. Since his election he has been testing how far he can expand his powers by just signing his name. He fired experienced and competent people in every branch of our government and replaced them with incompetent “Yes” men and women. Take for example the three stooges (Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy, Jr., Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi). He has torn down the White House and our government with it. Only a few judges have stood up to protect our freedom from his tyranny. His ego has him bullying our allies and courting our enemies. He has put his name on everything he wants. (Putting his name alongside John F. Kennedy, Jr.’s on the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts was an abomination.) Now he wants his signature on our money which was reserved for the great statesmen in our history. And now in Kentucky we have men running for the U.S. Senate that if elected say they would be proud to be his lapdogs.

No respect

Some persons running for political positions are being supported by The Liar, Con Artist, Cult Leader, Sex Offender and Criminal President of our country. They reveal their character by being supported by this type of person. Look at what these types of people have done to this country. Look at our cost of living. Our Republic has been converted to an authoritarian country, that uses our military to harm/control our citizens and other countries. Prior to this administration the United States of America was highly respected by the world, now we have no respect.

The general population that thrives on entertainment needs to wake up to their errors and vote these types of people out of office. If this regime remains in power the USA will become like a third-world country where the people have no civil rights; living standards will decline and poverty will prevail.

Be sure to vote, if possible. Our standard of living is in peril.

Laettner redemption

UK fans everywhere are celebrating the University of Connecticut buzzer beater by Braylon Mullins. He delivered a richly deserved payback to the Duke University Blue Devils for what Christian Laetner did to the University of Kentucky Wildcats 34 years ago. Too bad it couldn’t have been UK who beat Duke, but it was still supremely satisfying for any old (or young) UK fan to witness. I live in Cincinnati and my family members are UK fans. My wife graduated from UK. Thank you and cheers to Braylon and UConn. His three pointer may have been a little shorter but just as painful for the losing Blue Devil fans. Now the good people from Duke can share equally in the suffering - hopefully for years to come.

Library shushing

Lexington’s public libraries aren’t what they used to be.

I recently visited the Northside and Eastside branches and was amazed at how poorly the managements there handle excessively loud speaking from both employees and visitors. It seems common courtesy is shelved at those locations.

At Northside one guest’s voice continually dominated the computer area for 45 minutes, often yelling for assistance and loudly speaking on her phone while others tried to concentrate. The staff didn’t intervene and chastised me when I asked her to respect others.

While at the Eastside branch, I asked two staff members to modulate their very loud voices but was met with arrogant denials. I was then told to vacate the building!

I remember when library staff members acted professionally, and unnecessary loudness was not tolerated. I guess this old-fashioned politeness has been checked out.

Beshear genocide comments

In response to some Democrats accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza, Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., dismisses this charge, arguing, “That’s becoming one of those new litmus tests that we said we would never, never do as a party again. It’s trying to throw out a word and are you going to raise your hand or are you not going to?”

However, Israeli Holocaust and genocide researchers — Amos Goldberg, Omer Bartov, Daniel Blatman, Raz Segal, and Shmuel Lederman — have all identified Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide. Goldberg writes, “What is happening in Gaza is genocide because the level and pace of indiscriminate killing, destruction, mass expulsions, displacement, famine, executions, the wiping out of cultural and religious institutions...and the sweeping dehumanization of the Palestinians — create an overall picture of genocide, of a deliberate, conscious crushing of Palestinian existence in Gaza.”

Other genocide scholars, including Martin Shaw, author of the book “What is Genocide?”; Melanie O’Brien, president of the International Association of Genocide Scholars; and Dirk Moses, senior editor of the Journal of Genocide Research, have drawn the same conclusion.

The United Nations Genocide Convention placed prevention at the center of international law. By rejecting credible evidence of genocide, Beshear is undermining the postwar promise of “never again”— and the moral leadership his party once championed.

Political ads

The only good thing coming out of these endless, asinine political adds constantly airing on TV is the mute button on the remote.
