We should pray for those affected by the fire at Blue Grass Stockyards in Lexington — the owners, the cattle producers, local, across the whole state and surrounding states; and the employees.
It was a landmark, the largest stockyard east of the Mississippi River. All my life, I did business there, buying and selling cattle, as did my father and grandfather. The people who own it and the farmers who bought and sold there are some of the most down-to-earth, kindest folks anywhere.
A 50-mile radius around Lexington called the Bluegrass has more cattle per square mile than anywhere in the United States. A concentration most don’t know about and a vital industry in Kentucky. It’s a great loss, but luckily no loss of human life.
