Get a grip, McConnell
Aren’t Sen. Mitch McConnell, Sen. Ted Cruz and other Republicans always talking about adherence to a strict originalist view of the Constitution?
I don’t recall any wording in the Constitution establishing that nominations to the Supreme Court should be made by the next president. I don’t think the term “lame duck” appears in the document, either. Did I miss something?
Many years ago, I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. I think I carried that out to the best of my abilities, and I still consider myself bound by it.
McConnell and all senators swore a similar oath. Perhaps he and the rest of the Republicans should remember that oath and allow the elected president (I know that galls them, but they will just have to get a grip) to proceed with his duty to nominate a Supreme Court justice on the merits of the nomination rather than engaging in obstructionist partisan posturing.
