Democracy demands education

A democracy is only as good as its education system. Our democracy is in real trouble.

U.S. education systems have been misdirected and sorely neglected. The emphasis is on entertainment instead of developing students’ critical reasoning powers. Critical reasoning is the result of studying languages, math and philosophy.

We have been manipulated to think that a few athletic young men capable of putting a ball into some sort of hole are more important than those who are searching for cures for diseases.

We put some young people on a pedestal. We require the students who are future scientists to beg for a pittance to advance answers to the most desperate needs of our health concerns. We have wasted time, energy and money to combine our education systems with our entertainment desires.

Our education system is being sorely tested on the national level. Students have not been taught what democracy means and requires. We have people running for president who have no idea of what the Constitution says.

Students need to learn to appreciate what a fantastic way of “governmented” life our forefathers envisioned. To disregard laws is anarchy. Anarchy means the death of democracy and our nation..
