No guns on campus

Guns on school and college campuses not only make our children less safe, they also stifle intellectual freedom and debate. Our children go to school to learn. Forcing them to do so in an environment that must also welcome guns is irresponsible and dangerous.

Other arguments against allowing deadly weapons on campuses include:

Alcohol impairs judgment about whether to shoot a gun, and it impairs aim. A Columbia University study found that half of college students binge drink or abuse illegal or prescription drugs.

The firearm suicide rate among 18-to 21-year-olds is nine times higher than those 17 and under. Suicide attempts by gun are far more successful than other methods.

Guns on campus create new insurance costs for colleges.

The NRA is pushing these dangerous laws in 16 states, including Kentucky, this year even though the vast majority of college students, faculty and campus police chiefs oppose them.

Demand that lawmakers stand up for students and faculty — not the NRA — and reject campus carry laws that force colleges to allow guns into classrooms.
