Election cause and effect?

I have some thoughts on the election in the 54th District, which covers Boyle and Casey counties.

Some statistics were just released concerning the readiness of Kentucky preschoolers to enter kindergarten.

There are five criteria on which children are measured. The composite of the five for the entire state is “normalized” at 50 percent.

Boyle County children came in at 54.8 percent, Casey County at 40 percent.

Boyle County children scored higher than the state average on all five criteria. Casey County children scored below the state average on all five.

Boyle County is almost 60 percent Democratic; Casey County is 80 percent Republican.

Is there a correlation and in which direction does the causation run? Well, as one wag told me, lung cancer doesn’t cause smoking.
