McConnell Rule coming
It’s almost official. The McConnell Rule is about to replace the so-called Biden Rule.
As long as Republicans control the U.S. Senate, no Supreme Court nominee will receive a hearing by the Judiciary Committee during a Democratic administration. Sen. Mitch McConnell said as much when he recently stated that even if a Democrat is elected to the presidency in November, there will be no hearings for a Supreme Court nominee during the lame duck session. If this is to be the new rule, then by the same logic, there would be no way the Judiciary Committee would ever agree to hold such a hearing under a Democratic presidency.
