NBA beats B.A.
Congratulations to University of Kentucky coach John Calipari and the Wildcats for succeeding in not winning a national championship again this year. Now it’s time to proceed to the NBA draft, which is, as Big Blue Nation knows, the official end of the basketball season.
Some traditionalists still value championships, but these relics need to get with the program or find another team to root for.
This is a new era, baby. Our goal is to crush the opposition in June, not March. What occurs between Big Blue Madness and the draft is a perfunctory exercise that allows fans to express their adoration for the team. Anyone who expects more from a succession of No. 1 recruiting classes should stop whining and embrace the opportunity to buy a new set of jerseys each year.
Naysayers should take heart: While our one-and-dones are being wined and dined by pros and learning about the entertainment scene in exotic locations like Bakersfield, Calif., and Sioux Falls, S.D., Villanova University’s pathetic overachievers will be in summer school learning how to string three words together, two of which are not “you know.”
Go Big Blue. Coach Cal for president!
