Trump followers also puzzling
Enough has come from the lips and gestures of Donald Trump to make sensitive humans wish it’s all just a nightmare. This isn’t fantasy football; it’s about the presidency of the United States, for God’s sake.
The best Republican minds, Democrats not asleep, pundits valuing truth over ratings and experienced military leaders all lament Trump’s shallowness and vulgarity.
But every coin has two sides. The other side of the Trump coin is his host of supporters, whom the lamenters lack the courage to analyze and lament in equal measure.
How could so many Americans, not counting the dimwits and crazies, fall for such an out-of-control blowhard? Even if Trump loses the final vote, we still must wonder how this has come about. What does it portend for the future?
Centuries of world history, much of it in just the last hundred years, is clear evidence that when angry and disillusioned peoples turn to an egomaniacal rabble-rouser to restore their glory, the outcome is disaster. That we all, liberal and conservative alike, overlook or deny that history is frightening.
