Kentucky safer than D.C.

A recent writer complained about all the guns she sees people carrying in Kentucky. She claims she and her daughter moved here from the Washington, D.C., area recently, and she fears her daughter will not survive to adulthood due to the proliferation of guns in our community.

I quickly ran up violent crime statistics for Washington, where handguns are, in effect, banned, and for Lexington. There are 3.44 violent crimes per year per 1,000 people in Lexington. There are 12.46 violent crimes per 1,000 people per year in Washington. I suggest the writer and her daughter are far safer here and suggest she learn to shoot and begin carrying a gun. If she needs help in this pursuit, I will be more than happy to assist her.
