Don’t honor one-and-dones

I read that some Kentucky sportswriters have been talking about hanging in Rupp Arena jersey numbers of Wildcats who left the team early.

I love watching college basketball and have been a fan since the 1940s. If players do not fulfill their obligations to the colleges or universities that signed them, they should not have that privilege.

Most of the good players stay for about two years and then it’s off to the NBA. In a way I feel for these players because if they play the four years, chances are some of them will be injured and not have a chance to play in the NBA.

The money is so good in professional sports that it draws all good players from the college level.

I still believe in the old-school idea of four years and out.
