Cemetery disrespects flags

Every Memorial Day for 40 years, I have gone to Hillcrest Cemetery in Lexington and removed old flags and placed new ones among the flowers I plant there. I am careful to put the flags among the flowers so nothing interferes with mowing at the cemetery.

This year we returned after Memorial Day, and all the flags were gone. We were told by the person in the office that flags were artificial decorations and were not allowed.

I truly thought respect for the flag and the sacrifice of veterans was universal, but I was obviously wrong, since five flags were apparently tossed away.
