Time to take action against violence

Today, President Barack Obama will speak in Dallas. This is the 23rd mass killing since he took office. What can he say?

Twenty-three times, we have been horrified and grief stricken.

Twenty-three times, we have decried the culture of violence and division which is at the root of these events.

Twenty-three times, we (90 percent of us) have voiced our desire for sensible gun reform, better education and economic reform.

Twenty-three mass killings in seven and a half years, and here we are again ... still.

What can he say?

When will we actually do something?

Let’s stop talking. It is time to act. It is time to do the hard work of education reform, economic reform and gun reform.

It is time.
