Praise for Lexington police

While there are a number of things in Lexington that need fixing, the police department isn’t one of them. The department truly has our community at heart.

This was not so some years ago. Things began to change when Anthany Beatty began his tenure as chief. An atmosphere began to be developed within the department that transformed it into one that truly wanted to protect and serve.

Then Chief Ronnie Bastin took over and continued to improve the department. He moved it to the next level, where it became more involved in the community. Attitudes, training and policing methods improved.

Chief Mark Barnard inherited a police department that many of us believe to be one of the best in the country. While the verdict is still out on his leadership, the police department has some of the finest law enforcement people in the state.

Try going through the Citizen’s Police Academy and discover what many of us have.

The Rev. Jim Thurman
