Insensitive ad placement

On an inside page of the July 24 Herald-Leader, the article “No terrorist link found for Munich gunman” was situated immediately to the left of a huge advertisement for a gun sale.

In fact, the font size of the ad, along with photos of the guns, was significantly larger than that of the article. Even the weapons displayed in the ad were pointing toward the article, which described the attack on innocent bystanders.

Is there a message here that I’m missing? Or was this just an insensitive oversight on the part of paper’s staff?
