Kudos to Paul Prather for his great July 31 column “Fear Not! Crime is down, the economy is OK and police are fairly safe.”
The fearmongers are rampant among us. They don’t realize that this has always been a dangerous world. I fear Donald Trump a lot more than I fear the police, terrorists, riots, mayhem and murder.
Most Americans, and I say this as an old historian, don’t realize how dangerous life has been in this country through the ages.
I am sure none of us wants to go back to the Bush recession or pioneer days or even the “Happy Days” syndrome that many of the people of my age, 76, have imagined.
It is easy to wax nostalgic about the good old days, but if thinking people probe their minds deeply enough, they will have to admit that life today is much better.
So, Prather should keep up the good writing and keep reminding us that we really do live in a great time, a great place, and a great country.
