Put Cowan’s name on school
I fully endorse naming the new Fayette County high school in honor of Brenda Cowan.
The first female firefighter to be killed in the line of duty in Fayette County was a true pioneer and hero.
What more inspiration could there be for young women attending high school and for those looking forward to being a part of that community than knowing the leaders in this community respects and reveres brave women?
There are other venues for the recognition of so many deserving and respected names put forth and no service more valued than that of our firefighters who respond to emergency without question.
Cowan represents the best of a diverse set of identities I love. She chose a career path for which she had passion, serving people she did not choose or identify by race or place; she gave her life with no expectation of acknowledgement or appreciation; she added honor to her family when she already had a basketball hero brother, Fred.
I am begging on her behalf: Let her be a light for us.
