  • Balanced community dialogue can uplift morale and build public trust in schools.

I write today as a proud supporter of Fayette County Public Schools, compelled to speak up for the dedicated educators, staff, and students whose daily efforts make our district a place of inspiration and achievement.

While I agree wholeheartedly that transparency is an essential cornerstone of effective public education—and that our community deserves open access to decisions and data —I urge us all to remember that focusing solely on faults and setbacks does a disservice to the many successes occurring across our schools and district.

With the support of FCPS central office, every day, Fayette County classrooms brim with innovation and creativity. Teachers go above and beyond to provide engaging lessons and nurture students’ curiosity. Across the district, students are not only learning the basics, but they are also developing the skills, values, and resilience that will serve them throughout life. From award-winning academic programs to outstanding arts performances and passionate athletic achievements, Fayette County Public Schools are a source of pride for all who call this community home.

Moreover, our district’s commitment to access and opportunities for all students is evident in the countless initiatives aimed at supporting diverse learners. Programs for special education, English language learners, and gifted students are thoughtfully designed to ensure that every child receives the resources they need to succeed. Partnerships with local organizations further enrich the educational experience, and our schools regularly host events that bring families and communities together.

Of course, there is always room for growth, and calls for transparency should not be dismissed. Constructive criticism can spark meaningful change. However, when coverage skews toward negativity alone, the tireless efforts of the district, teachers, administrators, and students are overshadowed. We must recognize that setbacks are part of every institution, and that focusing exclusively on them risks undermining morale and public trust.

I encourage the media and our community to maintain a balanced perspective — one that highlights not only areas for improvement but also celebrates the remarkable achievements happening in our district. By doing so, we reinforce the spirit of collaboration and pride that makes Fayette County Public Schools such a vital part of our community’s future.

Let’s champion progress, encourage transparency, and give our schools and district the recognition and support they deserve.
