Eight Kentucky college football teams postpone their league seasons to the spring
The Mid-South Conference will attempt to play football in the fall, but it will attempt to do so without any of the eight Kentucky teams among its ranks.
The NAIA conference last week decided to postpone all fall sports competition except football to the spring. The decision to delay football was left up to the three independent divisions, who were allowed to postpone also or attempt to move forward with plans to play division-only schedules in the fall.
Two of the three divisions — the Appalachian and Bluegrass — opted to postpone those divisional schedules until the spring while the Sun Division elected to move forward with plans to play in the fall. They could play non-conference games in the fall still, but given the number of other postponements across NAIA, that seems unlikely.
Six of the eight teams in the Bluegrass Division — Campbellsville, Cumberlands, Georgetown College, Lindsey Wilson, Pikeville and Thomas More — are from Kentucky. Kentucky Christian University and Union College are members of the seven-team Appalachian Division.
Lindsey Wilson (12-1) last season received the Mid-South’s automatic bid to the NAIA Football Championship Series, a 16-team NAIA playoff. Cumberlands (10-2) was an at-large selection. Lindsey Wilson, the No. 6 overall seed, reached the semifinals of the tournament.
Georgetown College has won two NAIA championships, doing so in back-to-back seasons (2000 and 2001).
