The state of Kentucky sent 11 basketball teams to the men’s and women’s NAIA national tournaments that opened around the country Friday.

Of those 11, five survived and advanced to Saturday’s second round while the other six saw their seasons come to an end.

Thomas More was the only one of four men’s teams to move beyond the opening round of 64 teams playing at 16 sites around the nation.

The women fared better, with Campbellsville, Thomas More, Midway and Pikeville securing victories.

All five winners were scheduled to take the court again Saturday. After that, a top 16 men’s teams and a top 16 women’s teams would still be left standing, ready to move on to the final sites of Kansas City, Mo., and Sioux City, Iowa, respectively, to decide things next weekend.

Here is a look at how teams from Kentucky fared on Friday.

Men
