Lexington Legends hire new manager ahead of 25th anniversary baseball season

The Lexington Legends will be under new on-field leadership when the 2025 season gets started next spring on North Broadway.

Former college and minor league pitcher Paul Fletcher on Thursday was named the new manager to pilot Lexington’s minor league baseball team through its 25th anniversary season.

“I’m thrilled to be part of such a respected organization,” Fletcher said in a team news release. “The 25th anniversary season is a special time for the Legends, and I’m looking forward to helping the team succeed and deliver a memorable experience for our fans.”

In his post-playing career, “Fletch” is best known as a talent evaluator, having worked as a scout for the San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates. Fletcher is credited with signing more than 60 players, including 16 who made it to the majors.

As a coach, Fletcher has led three minor league teams to championships, helping develop 23 players who made it to the majors.

“We’re excited to welcome Paul to the Legends as we celebrate our 25th anniversary,” said Legends general manager Justin Ferrarella. “His experience in scouting and coaching, combined with his understanding of the game, will be invaluable as we build a competitive team.”

Fletcher, a 54-year-old Georgia native, pitched for the University of Tennessee and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 24th round in 1992. He played Class A minor league baseball in the Royals and Chicago White Sox organizations and also spent time in the independent leagues.

In 2024, Fletcher coached the Glacier Range Riders of Kalispell, Montana, to the independent Pioneer League championship series.

Fletcher replaces Barry Lyons, who led the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Legends to a 42-83 record in 2024.

The Legends open the 2025 season April 25 at home against the Charleston (W.Va.) Dirty Birds.
