Bears Sign Caleb Williams' USC Backup After 2026 NFL Draft

Miller Moss was Caleb Williams' backup for two years at USC (2022, 2023), and now he'll be doing the same in the NFL.

The Chicago Bears took seven players in the 2026 NFL draft over the last three days - safety Dillon Thieneman, center Logan Jones, tight end Sam Roush, wide receiver Zavion Thomas, cornerback Malik Muhammad, linebacker Keyshaun Elliott, and defensive tackle Jordan Van den Berg - but none of them were a quarterback.

Not long after the draft ended, the Bears added more depth behind Williams on the depth chart.

"Former Louisville (and USC) QB Miller Moss is signing with the Bears, source said," NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on X.

Moss spent the first four seasons of his college career with the Trojans (2021-2024) before transferring to Louisville last year.

In limited playing time at USC, Moss threw for 3,469 yards, 27 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His best year came in 2024 after Williams was drafted No. 1 overall when he compiled 2,555 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Moss led Louisville to a 9-4 record and a win in the Boca Raton Bowl in 2025. He hit career highs in passing yards (2,679) along with 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The 24-year-old Moss will likely serve as Chicago's third-stringer behind Tyson Bagent and Williams. The Bears have received several trade inquiries on Bagent this offseason, and adding Moss may make him a little more expendable.
