Kawhi Leonard Would Only Consider Extension With 2 Teams if Traded by Clippers: Report

The Los Angeles Clippers are coming off an interesting season as they finished ninth in the Western Conference standings with a 42-40 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2021-22 season.

Los Angeles also made some major moves ahead of the trade deadline last season as the team reshaped their roster.

In those moves, the Clippers sent James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Darius Garland and they also dealt Ivica Zubac to the Indiana Pacers for Bennedict Mathurin, Isaiah Jackson and the fifth pick in the 2026 draft they used to select Keaton Wagler.

By making these trades, the Clippers made their roster younger which has resulted in Kawhi Leonard's future with the franchise being in question this offseason with him entering the final year of his contract.

Spurs, Raptors Named as Only 2 Teams Kawhi Leonard Would Sign Extension With in Potential Trade

With Leonard being the subject of trade rumors this summer, The Stein Line's Jake Fischer released a report Thursday regarding the star forward's future in Los Angeles.

According to Fischer, the Clippers are determined to keep Leonard this offseason and his preferred choice is to stay with the team entering next season.

Fischer also reported that Leonard has no interest in signing an extension with the Detroit Pistons or Miami Heat if they traded for him this summer and that he would only consider signing an extension with the Toronto Raptors or San Antonio Spurs.

This is a massive report by Fischer as the star forward has been linked to multiple teams thus far, including the Pistons, though it appears that he is only willing to sign an extension with either the Spurs or Raptors.

Of course, Leonard spent his first seven seasons in the NBA with the Spurs before they traded him to the Raptors in 2018 where he helped lead the franchise to their only championship in his one season with the team.

Now with Leonard potentially being on the move once again this offseason, it sounds as though the 34-year-old forward has interest in returning to his former teams.

Fischer did report that the Raptors would have interest if the Clippers made Leonard available this offseason as they could pair him alongside Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram.

San Antonio may also show interest if the star forward becomes available for trade this offseason to potentially pair alongside Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, though they may elect to continue to build around their young core instead of adding an aging star.

While Leonard is reportedly only considering signing an extension with these two franchises, other teams around the league could also show interest in the star forward if the Clippers look to move him, though it sounds as though he wants to stay in Los Angeles next season.
