White Sox draft Dunbar's Royse
Less than 24 hours after his team was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, Thomas Royse received some good news.
The former Paul Dunbar High School pitcher was chosen in the third round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday by the Chicago White Sox. He was the 114th player selected overall.
Royse, a 6-foot-5 junior right-hander, was named Big East Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2010 after leading Louisville to its second straight regular-season championship.
Royse went 9-1 with a 2.71 earned-run average in helping the Cardinals to a school-record 46 regular-season wins.
Royse allowed one run on eight hits in 51⁄3 innings in Louisville's 3-2 extra-innings loss to Vanderbilt on Monday night that eliminated the Cardinals from post-season play.
