2018 Miss Basketball winner Seygan Robins chooses new home after Louisville

Seygan Robins, the 2018 Miss Basketball winner and former Louisville Cardinals player who entered the transfer portal last month, has chosen to continue her career at Tennessee Martin, an Ohio Valley Conference team that has one of her former Mercer County teammates on the roster.

“We are so excited to have Seygan join our women’s basketball program,” Skyhawks head coach Kevin McMillan said in a press release. “Seygan’s versatility could put her in a lot of places that can help us. The thing I like the most about her is that she is a tough, hard-nosed winner after playing for Jeff Walz (Louisville), Chris Souder (Mercer County) and David Tapley (Kentucky Premier). She is a great kid and a perfect fit to the culture of our program.”

Robins earned Miss Basketball honors after helping lead Mercer County to back-to-back KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 titles and was one of the most highly regarded guards in the nation when she picked Louisville over offers from Kentucky, Western Kentucky and Central Florida back in 2018.

During her high school career, she accumulated more than 2,500 points, 800 assists and 500 steals.

She goes to UT Martin with three years of eligibility remaining after being sidelined her sophomore season due to an ankle injury and getting a medical redshirt. The move to the Skyhawks reunites her with Mercer County teammate Emma Davis, now a junior.

UT Martin went 22-10 last season, including tying with Belmont for the regular-season OVC championship, before losing to Southeast Missouri State in the finals of the league tournament.

When discussing her preferences on continuing her career last month, Robins cited the desire to remain relatively close her home in Harrodsburg and to make a major contribution to her new team.

“I’m hoping just to try to improve my game as much as possible during this time and just come and make an impact on a program wherever I decide,” she said.

Robins and fellow Miss Basketball honoree Lindsey Duvall both transferred from Louisville this spring. Duvall, the 2017 award winner out of Bullitt East, transferred to Northern Kentucky.
