Lexington’s Devin Hairston invited to Collegiate National Team camp

University of Louisville shortstop Devin Hairston, a graduate of Tates Creek High School in Lexington, will compete for a roster spot on the 2016 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.

Hairston accepted an invitation to the team’s training camp starting next month in Southern California and will be vying for one of 24 spots. U of L first baseman Brendan McKay has also accepted an invitation to the camp.

An All-ACC Third Team selection, Hairston started all 56 regular season games hitting for a .368 average with three home runs, 44 RBI, 13 doubles and 50 runs scored. He also leads the Cardinals with 27 multiple-hit games and enters the postseason on an 11-game hitting streak.

Guided by University of Oregon head coach George Horton, the USA Collegiate National Team will conduct training camp from June 28-July 2 before visiting Taiwan (July 5-9), Japan (July 12-17) and Cuba (July 22-26) for a series of games.

Louisville (46-10) opens play in the ACC Tournament at Durham, N.C., against Wake Forest on Wednesday.
