Tyler Ulis became the University of Kentucky's second commitment for the Class of 2014 last week. He’s hoping to get others to join him in the near future.
The 5-foot-9 point guard is close friends with Devin Booker, and he knows fellow Chicagoan Jahlil Okafor well. Those three players all visited UK for last week’s Alumni Charity Game. Ulis wasn’t committed to UK just yet, but he was already recruiting on behalf of the Wildcats.
“I talked to Jahlil when I was down there, trying to get him to commit,” Ulis told the Herald-Leader. “And I’m going to see if I can get people like Stanley (Johnson) to come so we can have a really good team. Right now, it’s just me and Karl.”
Karl Towns is UK’s only other commitment for 2014. Ulis said he’s never actually met the 7-footer from New Jersey, but he has seen him play and is excited about the opportunity to play alongside him in Lexington.

One fellow prospect who Ulis knows very well is Booker, the 6-6 shooting guard from Mississippi. The two players were paired up at a Nike camp last summer. The results were immediate and positive.
“Devin’s a shooter and I like to drive and kick,” Ulis said. “When we first played with each other, he got a lot of buckets and I got a lot of assists. So we just clicked ever since.”
Ulis and Booker have become good friends over the past year, and there’s been plenty of talk about the two pairing up in college. Booker has also taken an official visit to Michigan State and has visits scheduled for Missouri and Michigan next month. He also has Florida on his list of finalists.
Ulis didn’t try to downplay the idea of the two playing together at the next level, but he said Booker isn’t ready to commit just yet.
“We actually talk about it a lot,” Ulis said. “He’s still going to take some visits though, because he wants to see what he wants to do. He’s not really sure yet. But we’ve actually talked a lot. We talk almost every day now.
“I’m trying to get him to come with me. He just said, ‘I don’t know yet.’”
