Former UK star James Young to play for Pelicans in summer league
Former University of Kentucky star James Young will play for the New Orleans Pelicans’ summer league squad in Las Vegas, the team announced.
The Pelicans’ Las Vegas Summer League opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on Friday, July 7, against Toronto. Former UK guard Mychal Mulder is on the Raptors’ summer league roster.
Young is a free agent after spending the first three years of his NBA career with the Boston Celtics.
He averaged 2.3 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 8.4 minutes after joining the Celtics as the 17th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Young played 7.6 minutes per game this past season, averaging 2.3 points and 0.9 rebounds. His shooting percentages — 43.1 from the field, 34.3 from three-point range and 66.7 from the free-throw line — were all career highs.
