Another double-double for Bam, plus more summer league highlights
Bam Adebayo picked up in Las Vegas on Saturday where he left off in Orlando last week.
The rookie from the University of Kentucky provided 18 points, 10 rebounds and two steals as his Miami Heat rallied to beat the San Antonio Spurs 75-74 on their first day of NBA Summer League play in Las Vegas.
The victory was the Heat’s first after they went 0-5 in last week’s Orlando Pro Summer League. Despite the losses, Adebayo’s play has been impressive. Adebayo, the No. 14 pick in last month’s NBA Draft, averaged 17.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks over four games. He shot 35.1 percent from the field and 76.1 percent from the foul line.
On Saturday, Adebayo made six of 12 shots from the field and all six of his free throws.
The Heat return to action Monday against Washington.
Summer league highlights
▪ Two former Wildcats helped lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 95-93 victory over Golden State at Las Vegas on Saturday.
Alex Poythress scored 12 points and had two steals but committed five turnovers. Aaron Harrison contributed 13 points and four rebounds in just 12 minutes of action. Former Cat Isaiah Briscoe, who is also on the Sixers roster, did not play.
Philadelphia played most of the game without No. 1 overall draft pick Markelle Fultz, who left with a sprained ankle.
▪ Former Louisville standout Donovan Mitchell continued to put up numbers in the summer league, scoring 19 in Utah’s 72-63 loss to Portland. Mitchell, the No. 13 pick in this year’s draft, shot 8-for-26 from the field and also had four steals, two assists, two rebounds and three turnovers.
Humphries released
Former Kentucky player Isaac Humphries, who entered the NBA Draft after his sophomore season but was not selected, will now miss out on the summer league as well.
Humphries, who was scheduled to play for the Washington Wizards in Las Vegas on Saturday, was released by the team, according to a report by Fox Sports.
