Isaiah Briscoe has excelled in limited role for summer-league Sixers

Isaiah Briscoe doesn’t appear to be in the Philadelphia 76ers’ plans. That’s why his contract with the team runs only through the summer leagues.

Yet in his rare appearances, the former University of Kentucky guard has been productive. Briscoe is averaging 5.7 points and 1.7 assists and shooting a team-best 58.3 percent in eight minutes of action per game in the Las Vegas Summer League.

“Yeah, again, it’s just about opportunity,” said Sixers assistant Lloyd Pierce, who’s coaching the summer-league team. “He’s had limited opportunity, and he’s made the most of it.”

On Wednesday, the New Jersey native finished with 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting in a 103-102 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. He had a solid left-hand layup when one play broke down. Briscoe was also pesky, good in pick-and-rolls, and tried to find his teammates in his 8 minutes, 31 seconds on the floor.

He’s focused on being “a great teammate until I get into the game,” Briscoe said. “Whenever Coach decides to put me in the game, just be ready. That’s pretty much it.”

That doesn’t mean Briscoe is content with the lack of minutes. He wants to contribute.

“I still want to get out there and play,” Briscoe said. “I’m a ball player.”

His lack of playing time has a lot of do with the Sixers’ wanting to get extended looks at other players. And they already have an idea of what Briscoe is capable of doing.

“They might know a lot about me,” he said, “but like I said, I still want to get in the game. And I still want to get out there and play.”
