Ex-Cat Eloy Vargas part of championship squad in Dominican Republic
Former University of Kentucky center Eloy Vargas, who was part of the Wildcats’ NCAA title team in 2012, added a professional championship to his résumé on Wednesday.
Vargas scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds as Metros de Santiago defeated Leones de Santo Domingo 94-87 on won the Dominican Republic’s Liga Nacional de Baloncesto title series 4-1. Vargas also added two steals and two blocks in Game 5. Robert Glenn, who played in college at IUPUI, was named Finals MVP. He had 27 points and seven rebounds.
Vargas, a 28-year-old from Moca, Dominican Republic, averaged 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, one assist and one steal while shooting 59.3 percent (19-for-32) from the field in the series.

Game 1 (W): 3-for-5 with six points, three rebounds and three blocks.
Game 2 (W): 3-for-6 with 12 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.
Game 3 (W): 4-for-5 with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and one block.
Game 4 (L): 7-for-11 with 15 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Game 5 (W): 2-for-5 with six points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Vargas averaged 11.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists during the season.
