Former Wildcat Monk checked in for preseason game but forgot one thing: his jersey.
After a long offseason in the NBA, it can take a while for players to get readjusted.
Some need to work on their jump shot. Others aren’t as conditioned as they’d like to be. Malik Monk, meanwhile, simply needs to make sure he wears the right attire for games.
Monk, a former University of Kentucky star now with the Charlotte Hornets, attempted to check in to Tuesday night’s preseason game against the Miami Heat but was then shown heading back to the locker room. When he took off his warmup jersey, everyone learned the second-year guard forgot his jersey.
It’s not the first time an NBA player forgot to put on his jersey before a game, so hopefully Monk can laugh at himself following his goof.
With his jersey on, Monk scored eight points and dished out seven assists in the 122-113 win for the Hornets over the Heat.
Monk is currently listed as a backup guard for the Hornets behind a couple of veterans, Kemba Walker and Nicolas Batum. As a rookie, Monk averaged 6.7 points per game.
He’s most remembered at UK for his scoring prowess, setting the UK freshman record with 47 points in a 2016 game against North Carolina. He averaged 19.8 points per game in his lone season at Kentucky.
