Former UK star AJ Reed named to California League All-Star team
Former University of Kentucky star AJ Reed, the California League's player of the month for May, added another honor Thursday when he was named to the league's all-star team. Reed plays for the Class A Advanced Lancaster JetHawks.
Reed, a Houston Astros prospect who is also the league's reigning player of the week, is tied with High Desert catcher and fellow All-Star Alex Burg for the league lead with 15 home runs. That's second-most in minor league baseball.
Reed, the 2014 Golden Spikes winner after his junior year at UK, is batting .300 with a .406 on-base percentage and .574 slugging percentage through 57 games in the first half of his first full pro season. He also has 12 doubles, a league-leading 52 RBI, and a current 10-game hitting streak.
The California League will take on the Carolina League in the 2015 California/Carolina League All-Star Game on June 23.
