It’s official: “Bluegrass Boys” entered in The Basketball Tournament
The Bluegrass Boys are in.
The basketball team comprised almost exclusively of University of Kentucky alumni was among 60 teams announced in the field for The Basketball Tournament, which gets underway next month.
The Bluegrass Boys, led by former UK walk-on Mark Krebs, was assigned to the Midwest Region. Games there will be played at St. Xavier University in Chicago on July 16-17.
Former UK standout Derek Anderson will coach the Bluegrass Boys, and UK Coach John Calipari will serve as a booster. The current roster: ex-Cats Shagari Alleyne, Ramel Bradley, Joe Crawford, Erik Daniels, Kevin Galloway, Perry Stevenson and Marquis Teague; and former Louisville standout Chane Behanan.
The Midwest Region also includes a team dubbed “Pedro’s Posse” that features former NBA stars Jason “White Chocolate” Williams and Mike Bibby.
Washington Wizards star and ex-Cat John Wall is serving as a booster for “BDB,” a South Region team that includes three former Cincinnati Bearcats.
Other players of note in the tournament are former Louisville stars Edgar Sosa (Talladega Knights) and Russ Smith (Fancy), former Indiana player Christian Watford (Armored Athlete), former Purdue star Robbie Hummel (120 Sports) and former NBA star Damien Wilkins (Trained To Go).
The teams will compete for $2,000,000. The West and South Regions start July 9-10 in Los Angeles and Charlotte, respectively. The Midwest and Northeast (Philadelphia) begin July 16-17.
