Former Kentucky basketball forward Marcus Lee headed to Cal
Former McDonald’s All-American and Kentucky men’s basketball player Marcus Lee will transfer to California, he told Scout.com.
Lee, a power forward who attended Deer Valley High School in Antioch, Calif., returns to the East Bay after three years at Kentucky. He averaged 6.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots over 21.8 minutes as a junior last season.
Lee, a 6-foot-9 forward who also considered transferring to Washington, will have to sit out a season under NCAA rules and be eligible to play in 2017-18.
Lee had originally applied for the NBA Draft but removed his name from consideration. In a statement to ESPN, Kentucky Coach John Calipari said Lee had decided to transfer to a school in the west to be closer to his family.
Kentucky transfer Marcus Lee told Scout he committed to California: "It happened 2 minutes ago."
