The Washington Nationals called up former Tates Creek High School and University of Kentucky star Trevor Gott on Friday.

The Nationals had acquired Gott in an offseason trade with the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for third baseman Yunel Escobar, but he was one of the team’s final cuts before the season.

Gott was 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 48 games as a rookie last year for the Angels.

This season in the minors, he was a combined 3-4 with a 4.57 ERA for the Gulf Coast Nationals, Class A Auburn and Triple-A Syracuse.
