Friday’s NFL cuts include ex-Cats Cory Johnson, Garry Williams
Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern is the deadline for NFL teams to trim their rosters to 53 players, but plenty of moves started coming in on Friday.
Two former University of Kentucky players were included among the cuts.
The Atlanta Falcons waived defensive tackle Cory Johnson, who had been signed as an undrafted free agent in May. He had six tackles, including one quarterback sack, in the team’s four preseason games.
The Chicago Tribune reported that the Bears will part ways with veteran offensive lineman Garry Williams. The team had added the former Seneca standout to its roster on Aug. 4.
Pro Football Focus rated Williams as the top performer at offensive tackle during the preseason.
Williams previously played five seasons for the Carolina Panthers before spending the 2015 season in the Canadian Football League.
Players that are waived Friday and Saturday are eligible to be claimed by other teams starting at noon Sunday.

Garry Williams is the first minor surprise cut. Seemed to be played well. #Bears must not trust his injury history (Via @BradBiggs)
