Kentucky volleyball goes back-to-back in winning two top SEC awards
Kentucky volleyball senior Leah Edmond was named the 2019 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year on Sunday.
It was the second straight season that the former Paul Laurence Dunbar star has earned the honor.
Teammate Gabby Curry, a junior, was named the SEC Libero of the Year for the second straight season, too.
Junior setter Madison Lilley and sophomore outside hitter Alli Stumler joined Edmond and Curry on the All-SEC team.
The only Kentucky athlete to win the SEC Player of the Year award for volleyball was Sarah Rumley, who won the award 10 years ago.
Kentucky has won the SEC Libero of the Year award the last six years dating back to 2014. In that stretch, three different Wildcats have earned the honor with Ashley Dusek and Jackie Napper joining Curry in that stretch.
Edmond leads the Cats in kills with 441 while Stumler has 350. Curry has a team-best 458 digs while Lilley tops UK in assists with 1,147.
After winning the SEC championship for the third straight season, the Cats were to learn their NCAA Tournament draw on Sunday night. The 2019 NCAA Volleyball Final Four will be in Pittsburgh.
