UK Tennis: Bushamuka and Matsumura at-large selections for NCAA tourney
Kentucky men’s tennis sophomore William Bushamuka and freshman Ryotaro Matsumura are at-large selections for the NCAA singles tournament, which begins Wednesday in Tulsa, Okla. Bushamuka is set for a matchup with Virginia’s Collin Altamirano and Matsumura will face Mackenzie McDonald of UCLA, the tournament’s overall six seed. For the women, UK’s Aldila Sutjiadi will meet Virginia’s Julia Elbaba in the Round of 64. On Thursday, Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi will take on No. 31 Melissa Lord and Carol Zhao of Stanford.
Bushamuka is 16-9 in singles, including a 13-9 record on the top court. Matsumura earned a team-high 18 singles wins. Sutjiadi led UK with a 16-5 mark during the regular season that included an 8-4 record in SEC play.
