Kentucky baseball heads to Auburn off 11-1 victory over Miami (Ohio)
The University of Kentucky tuned up for a big Southeastern Conference series at Auburn this weekend by besting Miami (Ohio) 11-1 on Wednesday night to complete a sweep of two rain-shortened midweek baseball games.
Kentucky (26-15 overall, 10-8 SEC) has an opportunity to gain some ground in the East Division race when it visits the last-place team in the West Division, Auburn (18-23, 5-13), for games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
After beating Dayton 4-3 on Tuesday and Miami on Wednesday, both in games delayed then shortened by rain, the Cats could be headed into more wet weather this weekend. Rain is in the forecast Saturday and Sunday at Auburn, where UK will play at 7 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Evan White tied a career high with four hits, including a solo home run, in the Wildcats’ eight-inning win over Miami at Cliff Hagan Stadium. Shortstop Riley Mahan went 3-for-4 with two RBI as part of Kentucky’s 10-hit attack.
Sophomore pitcher Zach Logue (2-1) pitched five innings, giving up one earned run, four hits and one walk to earn the victory. Logue struck out seven Miami hitters to tie his career high.
