Kentucky, Morehead players named Freshman All-Americans
Kentucky and Morehead State each had two players named Freshman All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Monday.
Kentucky’s Sean Hjelle and Justin Lewis were among 15 relief pitchers named to the 125-player squad.
Reid Leonard of Morehead State was one of the eight shortstops recognized, and the Eagles’ Trevor Snyder was among seven designated hitters honored.
Hjelle (pronounced “jelly”), a right-hander from White Bear Lake, Minn., went 4-1 with eight saves and a 3.74 earned-run average. All four of his wins came against Southeastern Conference opponents — Florida, Alabama, Arkansas and South Carolina.
Lewis, a right-hander from Suwanee, Ga., went 2-0 with four saves.
Leonard, from Glen Allen, Va., was a second-team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection. He batted .347 with 32 RBI and 12 doubles.
Snyder, from Fort Wayne, Ind., was an All-Freshman OVC choice who hit .326 with eight homers, 11 doubles and 46 RBI.
