Getting to know the Kentucky basketball players is a season-long journey for fans. We asked each UK player a series of random questions this preseason to help speed up the process:

Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Usain Bolt.”

I came to Kentucky because: “It was a good opportunity for me.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “Just the environment and the people in my city.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “I miss a free throw.”
ISAIAH BRISCOE
Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Watching Carmelo (Anthony).”
Favorite ex-Cat: “T” (Tyler Ulis).
I came to Kentucky because: “I want to win a national championship.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “Just my fan base. Going to the park and watching the games on the blacktop. I get a lot of love.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “A bad call.”
BRAD CALIPARI
Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Allyson Felix.”
Favorite ex-Cat: “Karl Towns.”
I came to Kentucky because: “I want to be great.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown (when at prep school) was: “Just being away from all the people who ask me questions. I was able to be to myself.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “Missing shots I should make.”
JONNY DAVID
Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Michael Phelps, for sure.”
Favorite ex-Cat: “I was going to say Jamal (Murray) and ‘T’ (Tyler Ulis), just from last year. I’d probably say John Wall.”
I came to Kentucky because: “It’s Kentucky.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “Primanti Bros (restaurant). Fries on the burger. I haven’t had one in awhile. I didn’t even have one when I went back. That was a mistake on my part.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “Nothing really gets me that mad. … I was pretty headstrong about not letting people get to me.”
DE’AARON FOX
Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Watching Michael Phelps dominate.”
Favorite ex-Cat: “Brandon Knight.”
I came to Kentucky because: “I wanted to get better as a player and a person.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “Just the big city. Now, you’re in a small city where everybody almost knows everybody.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “Not making shots. Not seeing the ball go in the basket.”
WENYEN GABRIEL
Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Usain Bolt when he would look back and smile.”
Favorite ex-Cat: “Probably Anthony Davis.”
I came to Kentucky because: “Position-less basketball.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “Family and friends.”

DOMINIQUE HAWKINS

ISAAC HUMPHRIES
Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “When we (Australia) almost beat USA.”
Favorite ex-Cat: “Probably Karl (Anthony Towns). I watch him. He helps me a lot. I respect him (and) his game.”
I came to Kentucky because: “I wanted to be put in situations where I had to really dig and really get better and work really hard.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “The food. Just the food.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “People who can’t play talking smack.”
SACHA KILLEYA-JONES
Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt.”
Favorite ex-Cat: “Anthony Davis. One of the guys I saw growing up.”
I came to Kentucky because: “Coach Calipari.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “I’d just say the people in general. Just everybody there.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “When somebody doesn’t take me seriously.”
MALIK MONK

I came to Kentucky because: “I wanted to play with the best talent.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “Playing in the park.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “The refs calling a bad play.”

Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Michael Phelps. I’m really into extreme winners.”
Favorite ex-Cat: “Jamal Murray.”
I came to Kentucky because: “I want to win the national championship.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “Probably my high school coach and my high school team.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “Losing.”
DILLON PULLIAM

Favorite ex-Cat: “Probably Tayshaun Prince.”
I came to Kentucky because: “Just the program, the fans, the atmosphere. Growing up in the state of Kentucky, I knew what it was like. It’s a dream to one day play there.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “Leono’s Pizza, a restaurant in Cynthiana. It’s the best pizza in my hometown.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “Probably getting beat on defense because that’s the quickest way to come out of the game.”
DEREK WILLIS
Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Michael Phelps.”
Favorite ex-Cat: “Darius Miller. … I loved watching him play. He’s a Kentucky guy and he’s more in, like, my time.”
I came to Kentucky because: “It’s the best place to play basketball. I don’t see how people want to go anywhere else.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “I kind of like not being home.”
Nothing makes me madder on the court than: “Missing a shot. That’s so frustrating.”
TAI WYNYARD
Favorite 2016 Olympian or Olympic moment: “Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps.”
Favorite ex-Cat: “Karl Towns. Making his big impact straight away.”
I came to Kentucky because: “I wanted to get better.”
Besides family and friends, what I miss most about my hometown is: “My mom’s cooking. Everything she cooks is amazing.”
