Basketball prospects in the class of 2019 are still a little more than two years away from starting their college careers, but several members of that group are already emerging as major recruiting targets for the University of Kentucky.
John Calipari and his assistant coaches saw many of those players this past week at various shoe company-sponsored events in Georgia and South Carolina.
The Herald-Leader’s Next Cats recruiting page dedicated to UK’s top targets in the 2019 class has been completely updated this week with the latest information on 18 rising juniors, and it includes new player capsules on prospects that have recently emerged on the Wildcats’ recruiting radar, as well as updated rankings and new video highlights for all of Kentucky’s targets in that 2019 class.
As of now, Canadian star R.J. Barrett is the clear No. 1 prospect for 2019, but he’s expected to jump up a class later this summer, a move that would put that top spot up for grabs.
Florida big man Vernon Carey — the son of a former first-round NFL Draft pick — is another possibility for the top spot, and UK is one of the schools on his list.
The 2019 class also includes dynamic New Jersey teammates Bryan Antoine and Scottie Lewis, five-star point guard Cole Anthony (son of Greg Anthony), early UK visitor Ashton Hagans, the offensively gifted Matthew Hurt and nationally ranked Louisville Trinity guard David Johnson, among other talented UK targets.
Check out the updated Next Cats 2019 page for more on those players, and keep visiting the Next Cats homepage for the latest news and additional insight on these prospects and other UK recruiting targets.
